James “Jimmie” D. Romano, 81, passed away on February 10, 2018 at Faye’s Personal Care Home in Spring, TX. He was born on April 15, 1936 in Houston to Anthony John Romano and Anna Macaione Romano. He attended Holy Name School, St. Thomas High School, and the University of Houston. He served four years in the 2578th Air Reserve Flying Center United States Air Force at Ellington Air Force Base, TX.
Jimmie is survived by his loving wife Sylvia Nichols Sowda Romano; they would’ve celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on February 14, 2018. Other surviving family members include brothers Dr. Albert Romano, Dr. Gerald Romano and wife Patricia, Roger Romano; sister Roseann Haude and husband Carl; sisters-in-law Antoinette Romano and Susan Elliot. Jimmie is also survived by his children Tony Romano, Julie Romano Levy and husband Rick, Chris Romano and wife Rebeca, Cindy Sowda, Chris Sowda and wife Kelly, and Steve Sowda and wife Linda, as well as 10 grandchildren: Ryan Christy, Ali Sowda, Nicole Christy, Zane Levy, Hunter, Carter, Parker Sowda, Cheyenne Sowda, Vincent, and Lucas Romano and four great grandchildren: Oliver, Jack, Gabe, and Brooke.
He loved the Lord, his wife, children, grandchildren, and all his family. He was very close to Sylvia’s siblings: Bernice, James D’ Agostino, Barbara and Leroy Baca, Jude and Luise Nichols, Linda and Keith Johns, and Noel and Dave Swan.
He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony John Romano and Anna Macaione Romano, brothers Anthony “Buck” Romano and Joseph L. Romano, nephew Steven Romano, step-son David Anton Sowda, brother-in-law William “Billy” Nichols, sister-in-law Mimi Romano, Evelyn Marie Nichols, and Samantha Nichols Brown.
He loved his work as a marine mechanic in Conroe, TX. He worked for 25 years with partners in two shops in his early years, then followed his dreams by opening and running his own business for 25 years. Jimmie loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing with Msgr. Charles Domec, Fr. Vincent, Jim Poussan, Dick McCracken, Dale Gardner, Buck Romano, Billy Nichols, his children, and his wife. Jimmie was loved and will be missed by all. The family would like the thank Silverado Hospice for all the wonderful care that was given to him.
Pallbearers: Tony Romano, Chris Romano, Steve Sowda, Chris Sowda, Rick Levy, and Zane Levy.
A vigil will be held at McNutt Funeral Home on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral will be held at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on February 16, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Thomas High School and St. Vincent De Paul at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church.
