Obituary for RODNEY DUANE CAUDLE

Rodney D. Caudle, 90, passed away on May 3, 2018 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas.

He was born January 19, 1928 in Smithboro, Illinois, to George Caudle and Mabel (Koeberlein) Caudle. He completed his high school education in three years in order to enlist in the service during World War II. In 1947, he met Veronica Beltran in a park while he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Veronica's friend helped them converse, despite Veronica speaking only Spanish and Rodney only English, and it was the beginning of their romance. They married on June 13, 1948, and had four children as they lived in Illinois, Missouri, California, Washington, Colorado, and Texas. Veronica passed away in 2013.

He earned a bachelor's and master's degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1950 and 1952, and was "all but dissertation" for a PhD in Mining Engineering from the University of Missouri in 1971. Over the years he worked as a senior structural engineer for Lockheed Aircraft Corp., Boeing, and the federal Department of Energy, and as a professor at Southern Illinois University. He also had a love for reading, especially science fiction, putting computers together for everyone in the family, and animals of all kinds. He retired in 1991 and moved with Veronica to Cedar Park, Texas. After Veronica's passing, he moved to Spring, Texas.

He is survived by his four children, David, Anita, Donald, and Mary, grandchildren Sean, Jeremy, Jennifer, Zachary, Max, Analise, and Sophia, and great grandchildren, Alex, Sarah, Kailyssa, Bryden, and Conner. He will be sorely missed by all.

An informal memorial gathering will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas at noon on Saturday, May 12.
