Willie Gene McCaleb, age 89, passed away peacefully at home in Montgomery, Texas on February 19, 2018. Ennichement service with military honors on March 23, 2018 at 1:15 pm at the Houston National Cemetery. Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the McNutt Memorial Chapel in Conroe, Texas. He was born on May 13, 1928 in Klondike, Texas to Willie Gilmer McCaleb and Frankie Beatrice Gibbs.

Gene served in the Army for six years, two in active duty and four in the Army Reserves, serving in Alaska. He was an airline pilot for 30 years and captain for 28 years, beginning his airline career with Wien Alaska in 1955 as a pilot on the DC-3 and the C-46 aircraft before moving to Central Airlines. In 1967, Gene became a Frontier pilot, with the merger of Central and Frontier, and then a Continental pilot with the Frontier acquisition. Prior to retiring, he was the Chief pilot for Continental Airlines. He retired from DC-10.

Gene was a member of the QB’S, (Quieted Birds) and he was a member of St. James Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry for 3 years.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and step father, Franklin A. Martinson, along with brothers, Charles Ed and Bobby Joe McCaleb. On January 31, 1959, Gene married Ann Skidmore of Midland, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

Gene McCaleb is survived by his wife Ann S. McCaleb, their two daughters, Kim Austin of Conroe, Tx., Kary Meade and her husband Sam of Waxahachie, Tx., and two sons, Bobby McCaleb of Kemah, Tx., and John Michael McCaleb and wife, Amy of McKinney, Tx. Grandchildren, Cas Austin of Willis, Tx., Sean Austin of Bonham, Tx., Samantha Meade Kosoris and her husband Kevin Kosoris of Waxahachie, Tx., John Meade of Dallas, Tx., Alexandra Meade of Dallas, Tx., Johnathan McCaleb and his wife Becky of Melrose, Minn., Tyler McCaleb of Brainard, Minn., Colton McCaleb, and Kailey Duggan of McKinney, Tx. Two great-grandchildren, Logan and Bridget McCaleb of Melrose, Minn.
