Carl George Unger, 81, passed away on Monday, April 8th, 2019 in Tomball, Texas. He peacefully went to meet our Lord surrounded by his loving family at Southern Knights Memory Care.
Carl was born in Woodville, Ohio to George and Viola (Reinbolt) Unger on October 16th, 1937. Carl married Martha (Hawk) Unger on September 13th, 1958 in Fremont, Ohio. Carl attended The Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1958. He was a left-handed pitcher for the Buckeyes. Carl’s devoted career in retail management moved the family to 5 states including Ohio, Virginia, Indiana, New Mexico and Texas. After his retirement from JCPenney, he and Martha settled in Paris, Texas. Golfing was his passion. He served on the board for Habitat for Humanity in addition to making pens to benefit the charity. He also served his community and church, Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, through the food pantry, Parish Council, and as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. Through his faith and integrity, Carl positively impacted so many lives!
Carl is preceded in death by his beloved parents, aunts and uncles.
Carl is survived by his wife Martha, his daughters: Kathy (Bob) Tellez, Connie Fuller, Kendra (Pete) Kotzur, Karen (John) Hardin, Carla (David) Rypien. He is also survived by his only sister Florence (Leslie) Bechtel, nephew, Scott Bechtel and niece, Stacey Alldredge. He was loving referred to as PawPaw by his 14 grandchildren: Robert Carl (Melida) Tellez, Crystal Tellez, Danielle (Marcos) Molina, Brianna Fuller, Ashley (Tyler) Holston, Matthew (Sarah) Kotzur, Michael Kotzur, Maegan (Jordan) Townsley, Mason Carl Kotzur, Garrett Hardin, Ross Carl Hardin, Lauren Hardin, Emily Rypien, Vincent Carl Rypien and his 8 great-grandchildren: Christian Tellez, Nicolas Tellez, Emma Tellez, Elizabeth Kotzur, Parker Kotzur, Evan Kotzur, Isabel Molina and her expected baby sister.
A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, April 27th, 2019, at 1pm, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 19222 Tomball Pkwy, Spring, Texas. A reception will immediately follow in the church community center. His ashes will be interred in Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Habitat for Humanity Paris, Texas.
