Obituary for Norman Dean Sloan

Born April 07, 1933 and promoted on October 06, 2018
Norman “(Norm)” Dean Sloan died unexpectedly at St. Luke’s Hospital on October 06, 2018 in The Woodlands, Texas at the age of 85.
Norman is survived by his; children, Roger Sloan & wife Kathy, of Conroe, Texas, Jeffrey Sloan & wife Becki of Montgomery, Texas and Marthana Collins of Willis, Texas and numerous Grand Children and Great Grand Children; He is preceded in death by his loving Wife Lee Sloan, of Conroe, Texas, Daughter Cynthia Frances Sloan of San Antonio, Texas, Brother Jim Sloan, Mother Esta Sloan and Father James Sloan
Norman was born on April 07, 1933 in Neville Township, Pennsylvania to James and Esta Sloan. He graduated from High School in 1951. He married Lee, the love of his life, in San Antonio, Texas while Norman was on leave from the Navy. Norman served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB/CVA/CV-42) during the Korean War. The Ship was the second of three Midway-class aircraft carriers. To her crew, she was known as "Swanky Franky," "Foo-De-Roo," or "Rosie," with the last nickname probably the most popular.
Lee and Norman married on January 27, 1956 and celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last year just before her promotion.
After his tour with the Navy was over, Norman and Lee moved to San Antonio. The couple welcomed 4 children into their home. Cynthia Frances Sloan passed away November 10, 1959 while Lee was giving birth to Roger Dean Sloan; then followed Jeffrey Sloan and Marthana (Sloan) Collins. Norman and Lee lived in the San Antonio area until the summer of 1978, moving to Conroe Texas. Norman started working for the Pepsi Cola Company as a Mechanic and retired after exactly 20 years of service. His children remember him as a kind but firm, driven man and a Father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Norman was a teller of jokes. He loved to tell jokes no matter how corny they were. One such joke was, “Did I tell you the rumor…about butter, awe never mind, I don’t want to spread it...” He would always say, “Well I made them smile, didn’t I?” Norman also had a giving heart, especially to those he truly cared for; he always wanted to give them something to remember him by. He was a witty and dedicated individual who loved history and was passionate about his family, both those born to him as well as his Masonic Brothers and Sisters.
He was an active and dedicated member of the First Methodist Church of Conroe and The Masonic Lodges in the Montgomery County Area and often volunteered as a door greeter at First Conroe Methodist as well as collected funds and food for the Conroe area Food pantry.
The Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10AM on October 29, 2018 at First Methodist church in Conroe, Texas 4308 W Davis St, Conroe, TX 77304. Rev. Janet Stilwell will officiate the ceremony and a reception for the family and lodge members will follow at Masonic Lodge 311 Simonton St, Conroe, TX 77301. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Norman’s life.
